The problem
Fuel prices change daily and the cheapest station is rarely the closest. A price per litre also doesn't say what a fill-up costs once you have driven there.
What I built
A postcode search that lists nearby stations on a map, with prices in pence to one decimal and distances in miles. Each result shows what filling up there really costs, using a 55-litre family-car tank and 45 mpg as sourced defaults that the visitor can change, and it says so on the card.
- Filters with a count on each (brand, services), and "Showing X of Y" so nothing is hidden silently
- Every station has its action: directions, opening hours grouped by day, services as labelled icons
- Results appear first; the AI summary arrives after and never blocks the page
How the AI part stays honest
The numbers are worked out in code. The model only explains them. Its reply is checked before anyone sees it.
- The prompt is built on the server from cleaned numbers, with the comparisons already worked out
- Replies are rejected if they name an unknown station, invent a price, write pounds as pence, or cut off mid-sentence
- A per-visitor rate limit, a daily cap, a cache and an off switch keep cost and abuse in check
- The model's name is never shown to visitors
